 Our Unshakeable Strengths

There are dramatic and sometimes shocking events in the history of every nation. These often become defining moments. One such event took place on September 11, 2001 in the city of New York. Evil cowards attacked us on our own soil, in a way the world has not seen before. This desperate act took the lives of thousands of innocent people. Our nation reacted in stunned horror as the events were broadcast live to the world. These events demanded strong leadership and commitment to a common goal. It is in these times that a nation, a people, becomes galvanized to action. We must not cower in fear or bury our head in the sand, hoping that it will never happen again.
As a result of that fateful day, our nation had a choice, and it chose to confront that terror and those who perpetrated it. Our nation came together as a people, and our patriotism that had languished for so long came bursting onto the scene. With it came a revaluation of the status of our country, and of those things we have taken for granted for so long. Those values that give us strength became our rallying points. We were reminded that we have a foundation, to which we can again cling, a foundation that is strong, solid, and unshakable.
This piece embodies the values and foundations of our nation. Symbolisms of that foundation are woven throughout this piece. The rocks form the solid foundation we have in America. The rocks interlock with each other to represent our powerful strength. The figure represents the American people. No longer man or woman, different ethnic origins or backgrounds, but for the first time in many years, we were Americans first and foremost. A nation is only as great as its citizens. This Citizen is holding a flag, the universal symbol of our United States of America. This is not just any flag, it is the flag that stood atop the World Trade Center. The tears in the flag remind us of the events of that fateful day in New York. On the back, carved out of the rock, is a Bible. It is a reminder that we were founded on belief and trust in the God of the Bible. When we turn to Him, He is our strength, and our wisdom, the One we rely on in any situation. There too, is the first page of our Constitution, the foundation document of our nation. This document has stood the test of time, as it will in our future. We must not abandon it, but must adhere to these decrees. The flagpole is tipped with a spearhead, representing the military power of our nation, the strongest in the world. The wind is blowing, winds of adversity will come to any people and test their greatness.
The piece is a tribute and an encouragement to all Americans, that as a nation, these are "Our Unshakeable Strengths".
