Burris Company entered the high-end 30mm segment of the
riflescope market with their new Black Diamond line in 1998. Along with brisk sales came
lots of demand for a higher magnification Black Diamond, and hence in 1999 Burris is
unveiling their 6-24x 50mm. The Burris Black Diamond scope features many new ergonomic
enhancements including: shooter-viewable, reachable and easy-to-grip rubber-armored
parallax-adjust ring; rubber-armored power ring; finger-adjustable, resettable adjustment
dials; and internal focusing eyepiece with easy-to-grip rubber-armored adjusting ring.
The Burris Black Diamond features some of the finest optical glass made in the world,
which is ground and polished to exacting tolerances to deliver extremely accurate, clear
and sharp images. Additionally, all lens surfaces are fully multicoated with Hi-Lume¨
multicoating, there's four times the magnification range, generous 3 1/2 to 4 inches of
eye relief and a choice of Plex, mil-dot or the new Burris Ballistic Mil-Dot.
The Ballistic Mil-Dot reticle provides aiming points from 100 to 600 yards. It is
calibrated to a .22-250, 55-grain bullet but is also very close to a 7mm Magnum 140
grainer, 7mm STW 160-grain bullet, .300 Winchester Magnum 150 grain and .30-378 180
grainer among others. The one guarantee for certain is each ballistic line does represent
some exact yardage for whatever cartridge you shoot. It's a simple trip to a long distance
shooting range to make your own yardage chart to correspond to each ballistic line for
your cartridge. (For instance, the 500-yard ballistic line for a less powerful cartridge
might be 460 yards.) Custom made Ballistic Mil-Dots are not available. Because it is a
nonmagnifying reticle, it is calibrated to use only on 16x magnification. The rest of the
reticle is just like a mil-dot reticle allowing you to use mil-dots for yardage estimation
and wind drift correction.
