Accu-Riser Cheek
Pad
Ever mounted a scope or red-dot
sight on a shotgun or rifle wearing a stock designed for iron sights? Ive had that
experience a couple times, and the results were never pleasant. Shooting a hard-kicking
firearm with your head raised high above the buttstock is a sure road to punishment. Being
kicked in the chops is painful. Once this happens a time or two, accuracy is guaranteed to
suffer.
If you need a higher comb, theres
a cheaper, quicker answer than buying a new stock. Leatherman offers two different
versions of its new Accu-Riser molded cheek pad. The Model CR4000S attaches securely to
the buttstock with the help of VELCRO straps. The cheek pad wont harm the stock and
can be easily removed.
The Model CR4000P mounts
permanently to the stock with a pair of screws. This requires drilling two holes in the
top of the stock. Screws are included, along with rubber plugs to fill the holes if the
Accu-Riser cheek pad is later removed.
Accu-Riser cheek pads are molded
of a rubber compound that flexes to fit most rifles and shotguns with straight-comb
buttstocks that lack a cheekpiece. If the cheek pad is too high, you can use a belt or
disk sander to reduce it to the correct height.
Unlike leather or nylon cheek
pads, the Accu-Riser is waterproof and wont slide around on the stock. These are
important pluses.
Benefits include greater shooting
comfort, particularly with a gun that recoils sharply. The cheek pad also helps you hold
the gun steadier, which improves accuracy.
The
Accu-Riser cheek pad can be purchased directly from the manufacturer by sending a check or
