Encore 12-Gauge Turkey Gun
It’s no surprise to dedicated gobbler
gunners that turkeys have become the number two game animal in North America, ranking just
behind whitetail deer in hunter popularity. Spring hunting is behind us, but fall turkey
season is fast approaching. If you don’t yet have a specialized shotgun designed
specifically for the turkey woods, Thompson/Center will be happy to help you out with
its new Encore turkey gun combo.
Based on T/C’s
versatile Encore rifle action, the new 12-gauge turkey gun sports the popular Realtree
Hardwoods HD finish, along with a 12-gauge shotgun barrel fitted with a ported screw-in
turkey choke tube. This special choke is said to increase pattern density by 25 percent.
The same smoothbore barrel can be used to shoot rifled slugs by simply attaching an
accessory rifled choke tube.
The 24-inch shotgun
barrel comes with fiber optic sights already installed. This barrel is decked out in
Realtree Hardwoods camo, and a plain blued version is also available. The Encore turkey
gun measures 40 inches from muzzle to butt and weighs just a hair over 6 pounds for easy
carrying.
Want to hunt with a
muzzleloader? Just switch to the 12-gauge muzzleloading turkey barrel, which also comes in
Realtree Hardwoods HD camo (the protruding turkey choke tube is blued steel).
Or if, like me, you
already have an Encore rifle in your safe, you can simply buy the turkey shotgun barrel and forend. The new camo barrel and
forend may not match your existing walnut or black synthetic buttstock, but I’m
betting the gobblers won’t care.
